Matured on the best slope

Our families have been rooted as winegrowers on Lake Kaltern for generations - and are closely connected to the region. Our ancestors were among the founding members of the winery co-operative, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

The Haus am Hang stands in the middle of our own vineyards. What's more, it grew out of the vineyard that Helga Morandell inherited from her parents. This origin characterises our respectful approach to wine, landscape and tradition to this day.

A glass of good wine
... is so much more than
just a harmonious companion.

Every dish deserves its counterpart.

The right wine can enhance flavours, balance out contrasts, freshen up the palate or deliberately set an accent. Sometimes it takes a back seat. Sometimes it takes centre stage. And sometimes it simply creates that little pause in between: for a good conversation, for a smile - for a moment of pause at the table.

Light reds or strong whites?

Anything is possible - and sometimes it's worth breaking habits. Light reds with depth. Whites with structure, matured in wooden barrels. The main thing: harmonious. And just right for the moment.

FROM THE WINE CELLAR TO THE MENU

From the menu to the table

Our wine list is a deliberate collection: great wines from renowned winemakers - and discoveries from small garage wineries and passionate amateur winemakers. Behind every bottle is a personality. And it is precisely this character that makes the difference for us.
Many of our wines come from vineyards that can be seen directly from the house on the hillside. We maintain a friendly, long-standing relationship with most of our winegrowers. Because for us, wine is more than just a product: it is a living passion.

For home cultivation
Wine culture in the house on the hillside
It's not just the well-stocked wine list that makes the difference here - it's also the depth of the vintages and, last but not least, our team: well-read, curious and always open to the perfect recommendation.
Our winery
The grapes from our vineyards on Lake Kaltern - in various locations and in the top location **Prutznei** in Tramin - are processed in the Kaltern winery. Here you can enjoy special fillings for our family: exclusive, full of character and firmly connected to the place.
Directly on the Kaltern wine trail
The wine trail leads in a figure-eight loop through the best vineyards in Kaltern. Again and again you cross limestone thresholds with „Riegelnamen“, the historical vineyard names. Enter the **Seegüter** vineyard right on the doorstep.
The best way to do this is in several stages - or by bike: around **16 km** and around **500 metres in altitude**.
Lake Kaltern
The absolute local hero. Vernatsch was already being cultivated here in the days when Christopher Columbus set sail. No wonder we have developed a certain expertise over the years - and still cultivate this love for the classic today.
Pinot Blanc
South Tyrol's flagship Burgundy variety. And in the hillside vineyards around Kaltern, it finds exactly what characterises it: Elegance, freshness and fine structure.
Cabernet
Fortunately, the Habsburgs lacked heavy red wines - and so this great variety found its way to Kaltern. Our vineyards have been planted with it for over 30 years. The result: densely structured wines that can also go on a long journey.
