Slanted here
and therefore so beautiful.
Weird here. And that's exactly why it's so beautiful.
Nestled in one of the most impressive landscapes in South Tyrol, the house is situated on a slope above Lake Kaltern - quiet, with the morning sun behind it and a wide view over the gentle vineyard landscape.
Three favourable whims of geological history make this backdrop so special: the rugged Dolomites rise up in the background - once reefs in the primordial sea. In front of them shine the warm porphyry rocks from volcanic times, the Mitterberge, on which defiant castles have been enthroned for centuries. And in between: the Überetsch, gently moulded by the last ice age. A hilly region made for exploring, marvelling and arriving.
where palm trees
bloom
Come by,
we are here.

And wherever the day finds its own rhythm: the first coffee outside, a dip in the pool, the last glass of wine, when it slowly gets quieter.
The South Tyrolean Wine Road runs for around 150 kilometres, connecting a total of 16 municipalities and passing around 70 wineries. Our nearest neighbours: Eppan in the north and Tramin in the south - and plenty of vines, farm taverns and favourite places in between.
Water has many faces here - and each lake has its own character.
Montiggl lakes: very close, quiet, nestled in the Montiggl forest
Lake Fennberg: at around 1,000 metres, a gem of a summer retreat
Göllersee (Aldein): popular with guests with dogs - swimming expressly permitted
Lake Molveno (Trentino): a dream destination for racing cyclists, reachable in just over 2 hours

Lakes: Lake Kaltern, Monticolo Lakes
Local mountain: Mendel Mountains
Altitude: from approx. 200 to 2,000 metres
Keyword: Hillside location - with far-reaching views
Like in the south, only in the north
Kaltern is first and foremost a wine village. And where the wine grows, culture also thrives. Throughout the year, festivals, concerts, film, art and theatre bring life to the calendar - some of which are now internationally renowned.
And Kaltern would not be Kaltern without its living tradition: 14 churches in 8 groups - more than twice as many as voluntary fire brigades. The market square is the stage and centre. Sometimes a venue for events, sometimes a meeting place. And in between: everyday life.
Mendel - our local mountain
Kaltern stands for variety. And sometimes it starts with the journey to the top: with the Mendelbahn, steep, historic, an experience in itself.
Fresh air, wide paths, beautiful views and cosy huts await at the top.
Rastenbachklamm gorge - wildly romantic and close by
A hike through the Rastenbachklamm gorge is a must for nature lovers.
Well laid out paths, footbridges over the rushing stream, waterfalls and cascades - and viewing platforms that make you stop for a moment.
The stream rushes from the ancient Altenburg beech forest down to Lake Kaltern. An experience for the whole family.
Ice holes - when summer takes a break
When it gets hot, it's worth visiting the ice holes:
A path leads through a landscape of downy oaks and acacias, which has been carved out by a huge rockslide. Even in summer, icicles can sometimes still be found in the natural caves - but in any case, the air is noticeably cooler.
It's not just the kids who are amazed
And then there's the Leuchtenburg Castle, the Spring Valley, the Überetsch architectural style, the town centres of the fractions, the biotope on Lake Kaltern... It's probably impossible to discover everything in a single holiday. But that's exactly the beauty of it: there's always something left over - for the next time.

Good bye winter.
Hello summer!
From the big wide world
to Lake Kaltern
If Kaltern is too small for you, the next one is just around the corner: the Dolomite peaks are within easy reach, the Non Valley surprises with its tranquil lakes and unagitated cultural monuments, and the cities of Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone and Trento are also within easy reach - even by public transport.
And because you can never do everything, but you can always stay curious: ask us. We almost always have a recommendation at the ready - and often an insider tip to go with it.
